Ask The Pastor (4.23.2025)
In this “Ask the Pastor” service, Pastor Devon opened by emphasizing humility, admitting he does not know everything, and encouraged believers that maturity includes recognizing we are not God. He addressed multiple thoughtful questions from the congregation, giving biblical context and practical wisdom.
The first question tackled Psalm 137 and the difficult verse about dashing little ones. Pastor Devon explained that this is an imprecatory psalm — an emotionally raw prayer by the psalmist, not the voice of God condoning harm. He urged careful, context-driven reading of Scripture, using other clear Bible passages to define harder ones.
The next major question asked where Jesus went for the three days after His death. Pastor Devon clarified that Jesus did not suffer in hell but went to Paradise (Abraham’s Bosom), preached to the Old Testament believers, and fulfilled His High Priest role by presenting His atoning blood before God.
Another question asked whether church success is measured by size. Pastor Devon stressed that biblical churches were often small, and God judges churches not by crowd size but by faithfulness, truth, love, and service. He reminded that big crowds can sometimes bring problems rather than true spiritual growth.
He then answered how to lovingly respond when hearing someone blaspheme God. Pastor Devon recommended discernment, using grace and wisdom instead of harshness. When influence is possible — particularly around children or young believers — correction should be gentle but firm. However, he cautioned against wasting wisdom on those unwilling to receive it.
Next, he addressed how to explain the concept of death to very young children. Pastor Devon shared that timing and discernment are key, as not all children can grasp such big concepts early. Rather than forcing understanding, he encouraged parents to patiently and simply introduce ideas about life, death, and eternity as their child matures.
When asked what three traits he would instill in Christians, he answered: Consistency (faithfulness despite circumstances), Passion (zeal in everything we do), and a Good Attitude (joyful and gracious living). He emphasized that these qualities would dramatically strengthen churches, families, and individual testimonies.
Finally, he answered where hell is located. Based on biblical descriptions — such as fire, darkness, falling, and worms — Pastor Devon shared that hell could possibly be at the earth’s core. He noted the molten core matches several scriptural details about hell but emphasized that the most important truth is its reality and need to be avoided through salvation.
