The message focuses on Romans 5, continuing a study on the doctrine of justification—the act of God declaring a sinner righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. The pastor begins by emphasizing the importance of consistent Bible reading, comparing it to how people struggle to remember names. Just as repetition helps retain information, regularly reading Scripture allows believers to internalize its truths and grow spiritually.

Understanding Justification

The previous chapters of Romans highlight the sinfulness of humanity and the necessity of justification. Justification means that through Jesus Christ, God views believers as if they had never sinned. It is not based on human goodness or works but entirely on faith in Christ. While people often judge others by their actions—assuming a good person who sins becomes bad—justification is God’s way of clearing our record through Christ’s righteousness.

Romans 4 explains that justification is separate from the law because Jesus fulfilled the law. Faith, not rule-following, is the vehicle through which people are made right with God.

The Results of Justification

Like a good diet, exercise, and sleep naturally lead to better health, true justification should result in visible spiritual transformation. Romans 5 outlines several key results of being justified:

1. Peace with God (Romans 5:1)

One of the first and most powerful results of justification is peace with God. Those who are not justified are in opposition to God, even if they are "good people." Without Christ, there is always something missing—a lack of spiritual peace that leads people to constantly seek material things, experiences, or status to fill the void.

The message illustrates this with Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." If a believer feels unsatisfied, anxious, or restless, they may not be fully yielding to God’s peace. A truly justified believer is not obsessed with personal gain but instead trusts God for provision and finds contentment in Him.

2. Access to God (Romans 5:2)

Before Jesus' sacrifice, only prophets and high priests had direct access to God. However, when Jesus died, the temple veil was torn, symbolizing that believers now have unrestricted access to God. Just as a close friend with unlimited resources can provide for someone in need, God’s children have direct access to His grace, mercy, and blessings through Jesus Christ.

3. Rejoicing in the Hope of Glory (Romans 5:2-3)

Justification gives believers hope beyond this life. No matter how difficult circumstances become, they can rejoice knowing that eternal glory awaits them. This truth shifts perspective—whether one is in a mountaintop season or valley of trials, heaven promises a future far greater than anything experienced on earth.

The message shares an example of soldiers in war clinging to pictures of loved ones for hope and endurance. Likewise, believers can push forward in trials, knowing that a better future with God is guaranteed.

4. Glorifying in Tribulations (Romans 5:3-4)

James 1:2-3 teaches that trials build patience and maturity. Joseph’s life is used as an example—he was not ready for the prosperity God had planned, so he first had to endure betrayal, slavery, false accusations, and imprisonment. Each difficulty prepared him for greater responsibility.

In the same way, God may withhold blessings until a believer is spiritually mature enough to handle them. Instead of complaining about hardships, believers should recognize them as God’s way of preparing them for something greater.

5. Experiencing the Love of God (Romans 5:5)

Justification allows believers to fully experience God’s love, beyond just knowing about it. There is a difference between understanding love in theory and actually living in it. Psalm 116 illustrates a deep, personal love for God that comes from experiencing His faithfulness in difficult times.

Many struggle with personal battles, grief, and depression that others cannot understand—but God does. Because of justification, believers can cry out to Him and be heard. God’s love is present in every season, whether in joy, hardship, or loss.

Conclusion: The True Blessings of Justification

Justification is more than just a theological concept—it transforms lives. Those who are justified:

  • Have peace with God rather than restless searching.
  • Enjoy direct access to God’s grace.
  • Can rejoice in hope, knowing this life is not the end.
  • Learn to glory in tribulation, trusting God’s process.
  • Experience the true depth of God’s love.

Many people chase after material blessings, but the true blessings of justification are spiritual, eternal, and life-changing. Instead of focusing on what we lack, we should recognize that, in Christ, we already have everything we need.

God is good to us—far more than we realize.
