In this continuation of the Ephesians 6 series, Pastor Devon Ortiz dives deeper into the spiritual warfare passage, urging believers to put on the whole armor of God—not just pieces, but the full protection available through daily submission to Christ. He teaches that this armor isn’t something we pick and choose based on preference or convenience. It’s activatedthrough consistent surrender to God.

The foundation of this message is the biblical principle of submission—to parents, authority, and ultimately to God. Pastor Ortiz emphasizes that earthly submission teaches us to obey a God we cannot see by first obeying those we can see. Submission is the key to wearing the armor: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer.

He breaks down each piece:

  • Truth (v.14): Yielding to God means yielding to truth—even when it’s uncomfortable or unpopular. Truth isn’t used to condemn, but to help us grow.
  • Righteousness: Once we know the truth, we do what’s right. True righteousness is action-based, not just knowledge-based.
  • Gospel of Peace: Christians must be prepared to share their faith, not passively hiding behind excuses like shyness. If we truly believe the gospel saves from eternal hell, we must speak boldly.
  • Faith (v.16): The shield of faith guards us against the enemy’s attacks. Faith is real and tangible—believing precedes seeing. Pastor Ortiz illustrates faith with the analogy of needing a cup to hold juice: belief prepares us to receive.
  • Helmet of Salvation: This protects our minds, reminding us that our lives are no longer our own. Salvation gives us peace and clarity amidst pressure and trials.
  • Sword of the Spirit: The Bible is our only offensive weapon. Many believers are unarmed because they neglect the Word during the week. We cannot fight if we don’t know Scripture.

Prayer ties it all together (v.18). Pastor Ortiz powerfully explains that prayer is not optional—it must be constant, strategic, and specific. Casual Christianity leads to powerless lives. Generic prayers like "bless everyone" do little against specific spiritual attacks. Just as a doctor can’t treat a patient without clear information, God wants us to be direct and honest in our prayers.

He illustrates this with Hannah from 1 Samuel 1. Her specific, faith-filled prayer for a son—promising to dedicate him back to God—demonstrates what it means to make detailed requests before the Lord. In contrast to vague, casual prayer, Hannah poured out her soul with clarity and purpose.

The message closes with a call to believers: Stop living a generic Christian life. Know the truth. Do what is right. Share the gospel. Strengthen your faith. Saturate your mind with salvation. Study the Word. And above all—pray with purpose.
