In this sermon, Pastor Devon Ortiz delves into Mark chapter 5, focusing on two profound miracles performed by Jesus: the healing of a demon-possessed man and the raising of Jairus's daughter. The pastor begins by reading from Mark 5:1-20, where Jesus encounters a man possessed by a legion of demons. Despite the man’s hopeless condition—living among tombs, unable to be restrained even by chains, and constantly crying out and cutting himself—Jesus heals him by casting the demons into a herd of swine. These swine then rush into the sea and drown. Pastor Ortiz highlights how this story shows that what we often see as problems are actually opportunities for God to demonstrate His power and strengthen our faith.

He then transitions to the story of Jairus, a synagogue ruler, whose daughter is gravely ill. On their way to Jairus’s house, a woman suffering from a twelve-year issue of blood touches Jesus’s garment, believing she will be healed. Her faith indeed makes her whole, and Jesus acknowledges her publicly, reinforcing the power of faith and the importance of seeking Jesus even in desperation.

Returning to Jairus, messengers arrive to report that his daughter has died, but Jesus encourages Jairus to "be not afraid, only believe." At Jairus’s house, despite the mourners' ridicule, Jesus declares the girl is only sleeping and commands her to rise, restoring her to life. This act astonishes everyone and underscores Jesus’s authority over life and death.

Pastor Ortiz emphasizes the theme of dedication through these narratives. He explains that true dedication to Christ often involves facing and overcoming obstacles. He challenges the congregation to prioritize their dedication to Christ above all else, including their families, ministries, and personal comforts. He warns against letting distractions and comforts take precedence over their spiritual commitments.

Using personal anecdotes and practical examples, Pastor Ortiz illustrates how easily people can be swayed by immediate pleasures or conveniences, like choosing unhealthy foods or neglecting spiritual duties for entertainment. He stresses that dedication requires consistent effort and focus, especially when faced with challenges.

In conclusion, Pastor Ortiz calls the congregation to recognize their need for Jesus, demonstrate their faith through actions, and trust in Jesus’s power and authority. He encourages them to be steadfast in their dedication, understanding that difficulties are opportunities for growth and deeper faith. The message is a powerful reminder that through unwavering dedication to Christ, believers can experience His transformative power in their lives, regardless of the challenges they face.
